First juvenile osprey fledges in Poole Harbour reintroduction programme

The first of four juvenile ospreys hatched under a Dorset reintroduction programme has taken flight near Wareham.

• Female osprey 6T6 fledged from a nest near Wareham on Tuesday at 16:00 BST.
• The four chicks were ringed on 1 July after conservationists scaled a 30-metre tree.
• Birds of Poole Harbour founder Paul Morton said juvenile ospreys typically return to the nest three to four times a day for a month after their first flight.
• The reintroduction programme, begun in 2017, aims to establish a breeding osprey population on England's south coast.
