Syria-Lebanon Roundtable Aims to Restructure Economic Relations, Review 42 Agreements

Syrian and Lebanese officials met in Damascus on Wednesday to rework economic ties, with a focus on clearing trade barriers and investment opportunities in Syria's reconstruction.

• Syrian Economy Minister Muhammad Nidal al-Shaar said cooperation will include developing data exchange mechanisms and specialized centers to support decision-making.
• Lebanese Economy Minister Amer al-Bisat revealed that 42 bilateral agreements and memoranda need review, and announced a committee to address customs, transit, and delays at crossings starting next week.
• The Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon signed a cooperation memorandum to promote trade and economic activities.
• The joint higher committee between the two countries was established on July 2, with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani signing the agreement.
