New long-necked dinosaur species discovered in Thailand

Palaeontologists in Thailand have identified a new dinosaur species, Uragasaurus kalasinensis, from fossils found in Kalasin Province.

• The plant-eating dinosaur lived about 150 million years ago and measured up to 20 metres in length.
• The fossil, a dorsal vertebra with unique characteristics, was recovered from the Phu Noi site and is the first of its kind from the Mamenchisauridae family found in Thailand.
• Dr Apirut Nilpanapan from Mahasarakham University said the specimen's unique air-cavity structure is unlike any other dinosaur.
• The study describing the discovery was published in the journal Nature.
