Appeals court acquits businessman Yahya al-Saidi in October Gardens extortion case

An Egyptian appeals court has acquitted businessman Yahya al-Saidi of charges related to imposing control over building materials in the October Gardens area.

• The Misdemeanor Appeals Court of 6th of October, presided over by Judge Ahmed Hisham, accepted al-Saidi's objection and acquitted him of the charge of imposing control over building materials.
• A lower court had sentenced al-Saidi and others to two years in prison on May 17, 2026, for charges including assault, showing force, and extortion in the same case.
• The public prosecution had accused al-Saidi and his co-defendants of assaulting a victim, causing injuries that incapacitated him for over 20 days, and demanding extortion payments.
• The lower court also ordered the sixth defendant, Sherif, to pay 5,000 Egyptian pounds in civil compensation to the two victims.
