Family confirms deaths of British couple in Spain wildfires

The family of Pete and Fran Gillam has confirmed the couple died in wildfires that swept through southern Spain's Almeria province last week.

• The couple’s daughter, Danielle Gillam-Kirton, announced on Facebook that police confirmed her parents did not survive the fire.
• A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson said it was supporting affected British nationals and liaising with Spanish authorities.
• Spanish authorities reported at least 13 fatalities, including five believed to be British, from the wildfire that burned about 7,000 hectares.
• The wildfire, which prompted the evacuation of more than 1,000 people from communities around Los Gallardos and Bédar, has been contained.
