Mastermind behind €88m Louvre heist thought thieves could have taken more, suspects say

Two men accused of stealing €88m worth of jewels from the Louvre have told investigators the alleged mastermind was disappointed with the haul.

• The suspects, identified as Abdoulaye N and Ghelamallah A, said they broke into the Apollo Gallery on orders from a client they refused to name.
• The pair stole eight pieces of jewellery but dropped a gem-encrusted crown worn by Empress Eugénie during their escape.
• Abdoulaye N said he was promised €15,000–€20,000 for his role, while Ghelamallah A said he was paid €20,000–€25,000.
• Both suspects said they did not know the identity of the mastermind and refused to cooperate out of fear for their families.
