Matrouh authorities warn against swimming in open-sea beaches as waves rise

Matrouh governorate agencies have banned swimming on open-sea beaches due to high waves and dangerous currents, restricting access to safe enclosed beaches.

• Authorities warned of elevated drowning risks from high waves and strong rip currents along the Mediterranean coast.
• The Marsa Matrouh city council closed roads leading to open-sea beaches, including those at al-Obayid, Umm al-Rakham, and Ajiba.
• Officials instructed tourists to swim only at safe beaches on the Marsa Matrouh bay and the Firouz and Cleopatra lakes.
• The council said Cleopatra’s Bath and the rocks at al-Gharam beach are open only for visits and photographs, not swimming.
